Is traditional media redundant?

As technological advancements continue to take the world by storm, it seems traditional media, in particular the television, is slowly becoming redundant. Mobile telephones, electronic diaries and portable notebooks appear to be dictating consumer trends. Is it no longer important for a device to be efficient and reliable? Or are the only requirements that the device has the fasted possible wireless connection and have the ability to hold 80,000 sound files?

The move from Dial-Up to ADSL, then onto 3G and now NextG has seen consumers be exposed to increased cost in upgrading their product to suit modern and 'revolutionary' advancements. Is it even worthwhile purchasing the latest product in the 21st Century? Is it not after all, going to become outdated in a matter of months anyway? These advancements are creating a world where time restrictions apply automatically and lagging is not tolerated. Is there not happy medium where old and new can rest happily and perhaps the average Aussie can save a dollar?
